Venice

I spent 12 days discovering beautiful Venice and it is surroundings. The city was so spectacular. I love the whole city. It is the most romantic city in the World. There are so many things to do in Venice. I couldnt get enough of the most romantic city in the World.

I love getting lost in the little streets of Venice. The whole city was magical. It has so much history too. I loved taking the vaporetto (water taxi) up and down the river and watch the city and its phenomenal architecture and palaces around the river. It is a truly special place. If I ever wondered what to do in Venice, I would just hop on a gondola and chill out and observe the beautiful palazzi around the Grand Canal. It was the most relaxing thing ever.

Top Things To Do in Venice

Most tourists start their discovery of Venice on the Piazza San Marco. Here, one can see some of the city’s main attractions such as the enormous St Mark’s Basilica, the Doge’s Palace that served once as Venice’s judicial and political hub and the famous clock tower (Torre dell’Orologio) which was built around 15oo. Visiting this square is one of the best things to do in Venice italy These famous buildings are my favorite Venice tourist attractions.

If you walk a bit further up along the river, you can see the spectacular Danieli Hotel, which is the most elegant and traditional hotel of the city. One of the best things about Venice is the collection of art that is hosted here. There is a museum on every corner and there are plenty of choices for art lovers. You can read more about art in Venice in my article that I dedicated for this topic. Seeing all the beautiful reinassaince art in Venice is amongst the top things to do in Venice.

Venice is a great place for people who love history, architecture, art, food and gelato. Attractions in Venice are endless, but if you visit the city in the beginning of September, you can take part in two of the best activities in Venice; the regatta and the Venice Film Festival. One of the highlights of Venice is the yearly regata. The historical regata takes place on the first Sunday of every September on the Grand Canal of Venice. Hundreds of gondoliers cruise down the river in 16th century costumes. It s absolutely spectacular. Make sure you schedule your visit for the weekend of the regata, so that you can see this spectacular race. Watching this makes you feel like you just flew back in time hundreds of years.

Venice just gives people a sweet vibe. For whatever you do in this place, the ambiance just add a little sweetness in it whether it’s just walking around while eating gelato or going onto Gondola ride.

Can you believe that I have been to Italy more than 10 times, but haven’t visited Venice yet. I am sure it is a romantic city. I will keep this article for when I am going there

Venice is a beautiful city, but there are many other beautiful places to visit in Italy, so I dont blame you for that.

We loved Venice, my top tip is to walk and just get lost 😀 We found Venice to be a maze of streets but we embraced the fact that we couldn’t follow a map or find out way. I found that we discovered the most beautiful side streets and narrow alleys this way and feel this is the best way to discover the heart of Venice 🙂

Yes, it is true, but I got lost so many times in Venice. Sometimes in the middle of the night, so I have bad memories of getting lost in the small alleys.

I made one trip there but I did miss some. I wish to see regatta on Grand Canal, must be quite a sight.

Barbara, if Venice is the world’t most romantic city, what is #2?

I’d love to see the regatta on the grand canal. Venice is a great place to visit. There is something different around every corner and over every bridge.

I went to Venice just once when I was 16 with my family and hated it. It was in the middle of summer, crowded, hot and expensive so we couldn’t afford anything other than a bottle of water from the supermarket. Of course this is just a totally wrong trip in which we tried to fit as much of Italy as possible on a budget, so I should really give this city another try because even though my first experience wasn’t awesome, I’m sure I’d love it the second way around. Thanks for your inspiration and reminding me that Venice is not always how I remember it to be 🙂

it is best to go to Venice in off-season, because everything is cheaper and there are less crowds. Yes, the city is way too touristy and a bit overpriced too.

Gondola relaxing ride is definitely on my list of things to do in Venice. And the amazing Italian food, it’s probably isn’t hard at all to fall in love with the city.

I never mentioned the gondola ride as an option in the post. This is not something I would recommend to my readers at all.

I’m glad you enjoyed Venice. I was there for 5 days in June and I personally disliked Venice a lot. I’m not sure why. It was just not like I had expected, but I’m glad others have had a great experience of the place. I did like the food, though! 🙂

Gelato, gelato, gelato… I ate so many in Venice, it was unbelievable. The regatta sounds very interesting!

The regatta is so beautiful! Gelato is pretty good in Venice, but some other cities like Bologna or Parma make better gelato.
