Paris is the World capital of Art. There is no other city in the World that has as many incredible museums as Paris does. The art galleries in Paris display art by some of the best artists from all over the World. Even if you are not a gallery goer, you can walk around the streets of Paris and see many great works of famous street artists such as Space Invader. Street art in Paris is also very interesting and makes the city a colorful open-air museum.

Space Invader is a famous street artist. He was portrayed in the Oscar nominated documentary Exit Through The Giftshop. The movie was portraying street artists . Even if you do not want to pay for museums, you get exposed to art everywhere on the streets of Paris.

Paris is the city that hosts some of the most incredible art collections in the World. There are a ton of museums in Paris. The Louvre is famous for hosting the Mona Lisa as well as other famous art pieces. Musee d’Orsay is another interesting museum, which was set up in an old railway station. It is famous for its collection of impressionist paintings of artists like Monet, Manet, Renoir, Cezanne, Van Gogh. I am a big fan of modern art and I usually skip these museums and go to the modern museums to see some unconventional art. My favorites are the Centre Georges Pompidou, the Musee de l’Orangerie, National Museum of Modern Art (Musée d’Art Moderne Paris) in Palais de Tokyo and I also like the Musee Picasso. These modern art galleries show case a rich collection of art from all over the World. There are many more art museums in Paris you can visit, but these are my absolute favorites.

Centre Georges Pompidou

The Centre Georges Pompidou is the largest modern art museum in Europe with a really cool permanent collection with lots of Picassos, Warhols, Kandinskys. This museum has lots of interesting contemporary art paintings. This is the most famous Paris museum of modern art of France. The building itself is already worth a visit.

It has lots of pipes and tubes running on the exterior of the building. The building looks more like a jail than a museum to me. When you look out of the window of the museum, you can see a large pool with very interesting art pieces floating on the surface.

The museum hosts some of the best exhibitions in Paris by some of the most famous contemporary artists such as Picasso, Dali. Last time I was there, I saw a Roy Lichtenstein exhibit.

(Musée National d’Art Moderne)

If you are more adventurous and want to see something even more contemporary, you should go to the Palais de Tokyo near the Eiffel Tower to see the National Museum of Modern Art. The museum of modern art in Paris is one of the best museums in the city.

This place also hosts really interesting temporary exhibits.

When I was there, I was fortunate to see Keith Haring’s collection. I was very impressed. I learned many things about the artist’s life. It was interesting to learn that he was close friend of Warhol and he died young in HIV. He started doing street art in NY and later he traveled all over the World to create murals. His work can be seen in places like Pisa in Italy on the walls. I think his art is very unique and interesting.

Musee de l’Orangerie

I also visited the Musee de l’Orangerie. It is a small gallery by the Jardin de Tulleries with some interesting art pieces. However, it is a really small contemporary art gallery.

My two favorite Paris art museums are the Centre Georges Pompidou and National Museum of Modern Art. What is your favorite modern art museum in Paris? Please leave a comment below.
