I used to live the bi-continental life between New York and Europe and I suffered way too much because of jet-lag. Long-haul flights are always tough on the body. No matter how much I travel, jet-lag is not something I can get used to, but I have developed a couple of habits that help me get over my jet-lag quicker.   1. Adjust to the New Time Zone as Soon as You Land

This means, if you are flying from the US to Europe, and you arrive in the morning European time and it is still night time in the US, do not go to bed. I always stay up as long as I can. In the afternoon I might take an hour or two nap if I feel really exhausted, but I try to adjust my life to the new time zone. Also time your meals according to the new time zone. Once you are on the plane, you should already start adjusting your body by eating according to the new time zone. So if you are flying from London to LA and they are serving dinner on the plane, you should consider what time of the day it is in LA and you should eat what you would it according to that time zone. best way to get rid of jet lag

Forget about hard-core sleeping pills. You can buy Melatonin over the counter in most countries. It is the hormone your brain produces to put your body to sleep. I always take this with me when I m traveling to a different time-zone. This is pretty strong and puts me to sleep without any issues, when I need to sleep.

When you are traveling to a new country, your body will struggle with the jet-lag for the first few days. It is enough stress for the body to handle the time difference and the sleep deprivation, so the last thing I want to eat is heavy food. I usually eat fruits, salads, yogurt, nuts in the first couple of days of my trip. Drink lots of water.

This is an app that helps you adjust to the new timezone by telling you to go to bed earlier/later while you are still in your home country every day before the trip. I am honestly not a fan of this. Why would I want to mess up my waking hours when I am in my own country? I usually just suffer for 3 days, once I get to the new country and that’s it. Some people I know swear by this, so I thought I should mention it.
