Why do you recommend Bali as a luxury destination? luxury bali

Bali has always been a famous vacation destination as it has always been known as surfers’ paradise. It is famous for its pristine beaches and its humble locals. It became a major tourist destination, since the movie Eat Pray Love made the island a destination for people seeking a peaceful, calm environment to practice yoga and to find their inner peace. The island is not only great for people who want to be spiritual and want to connect with nature, but in the last decade, many luxury resorts and upscale restaurants were opened to host high-end tourists on this friendly paradise island.

Bali is also an excellent honeymoon destination. Check out this Bali Honeymoon Guide, if you are considering Bali as a honeymoon destination.

Best Hotel

The Bulgari Hotel
This upscale hotel in Uluwatu is tucked away from the noisy beaches of Kuta. It is a traditional Asian hotel with beautiful bungalows on the cliff of the mountain overlooking the Indian Ocean. If you want to have a dreamy wedding, get married at this hotel. A Chinese couple was getting married here, while we were sipping cocktails on the terrace. Everything was covered with rose petals, they were standing on a platform overlooking the water.

Best Boutique Hotel
Aman Boutique Hotel is the most upscale boutique hotel on the island of Bali. Aman has resorts in 20 countries around the World. You may have heard of its 6-star hotel in Venice, where George Clooney got married. The Aman resorts group has three hotels in Bali, the Amankila, Amandari and Amanusa.

Amankila has 34 bungalows set up on stilts with private terraces. It is a harmonious hide-away cascading above the rice-terraces. Its three-tiered pool tumbles down the hillside like a cascading rice field.

Amandari – designed in the style of a traditional Balinese village. Local artisans hand-carved a magnificent stone wall at the entrance. The hotel consists of standalone suites and villas overlooking the rice terraces of Ubud.

Amanusa – This beautiful restreat overlooks the Indian Ocean and the Bali National Golf Club. It is furnished with beige, brown, creme and honey. Villas open onto private courtyards with outdoor showers.

Best Spa

Karma Spa at Karma Kandera
The spa offers elevated views of the Indian Ocean. The spa consists of rustic-luxe huts and infra-red detox sauna set up into limestone cliffs. They are good at therapeutic messages, oxygen facials. They utilize the ancient knowledge of reiki in their treatments.

The restaurant was opened by two former chefs of the five star resort Alila Ubud. It is a small restaurant with only about 30 seats. All the fruits and vegetables in the restaurants are organic and purchased from local producers.

Best Sweets

Gelato Secrets in Ubud makes my favorite ice-cream on the island. They have unique flavours. My favorites were the raw chocolate and dragonfruit with cinnamon.

Best Bars

WooBar at the W Hotel in Seminyak is a beautiful bar right near the pool of the hotel with views to the ocean. The cocktails are tasty and the crowd is very good-looking. Various DJs are invited to play here every night. The place is really chic.

Best Clubs

Sky Garden in Jalan Legian is the most popular club complex in Bali. The place is home of 8 night clubs and various restaurants. Sky Garden Rooftop Lounge has world-class DJs and an eclectic crowd. It is frequently visited by many tourists as well as local Balinese people.

Best Spots During the Day

Best way to spend the day in Bali is by laying on the beach. You can also visit temples around the island or the Monkey Forest in Ubud. The rice paddies around Ubud are also a popular tourist attraction.

Best Shopping

Although Discovery Mall is the largest mall in Kuta, my favorite mall was the Beachwalk, where I could find all the usual stores like we have in Europe and some other local designer shops. It is a very beautiful mall right on the beach, with beautiful shops lit up by large LED lights. luxury bali

Best Adventurous Activities

Bali is a famous surfers’ paradise. It is one of the best places to learn to surf, because the waves are not very large. I took some lessons with  Odysseys Surfing School on Kuta Beach. One can enjoy adventurous activities such as paragliding, banana boat riding or fish flying in Nusa Dua. Bali is also a good place for scuba-diving. A ship wreck sank in Tulamben in WWII. People who enjoy hiking should hike up to the Kintamani Volcano. Read more on Indonesia scuba-diving here. luxury bali

Best Beach

Nusa Dua is my favorite beach in Bali, because of its shallow calm water. Many of the luxury resorts are located around Nusa Dua. Long palm trees are lining up along the beach. Also, the beaches are less crowded and more exclusive. It is a great place for snorkeling as well.luxury bali

Best Sunset

The restaurant/bar Ku Da Te in Seminyak is one of the best places to watch the sunset from. It is an amazing restaurant and a great bar and also provides an amazing view to the ocean. A DJ provides lounge music during sunset hours. Lots of people gather together to listen to cool lounge music and enjoy the fun atmosphere. luxury bali

There are many good ice-cream places in Ubud, so not sure which one you tried. I would go back anytime to Ubud for more ice-cream…

  • We visited Bali in 2016 for the first time, but only had a day. It was a cruise port and it was raining. We headed to Ubud and loved it. I can’t wait to go back and check out the beaches. We did have ice cream in Ubud and it was great. I don’t know if was the place you recommended above or not.
