Yosemite National Park: Hiking in Snowy Wonderland

May 24, 2017

After driving for about 4 hours from LA to the Yosemite National Park, we arrived to a snowy wonderland. The journey was so beautiful. There were picturesque mountains all around us and the sky was bright blue. I loved the scenery. Where is Yosemite National Park? You may ask. This beautiful national park is located in the central Sierra Nevada of California. If you are planning a trip to Yosemite, make sure to stay at least for 3 days to visit the most beautiful places in the park and enjoy the sunset and admire the wildlife. Yosemite National Park California

The Wonders of the Yosemite National Park

Once we reached the Yosemite. We checked out the Mariposa Grove first, as we did not have too much time before sunset. The Mariposa Grove is one of the best places to visit in Yosemite. Most visitors spend their time in the seven square mile of Yosemite. About 5 million tourists a year visit this part of the park. The park is huge and there are many things to do in Yosemite. It was the beginning of March. I believe it is the best time to visit Yosemite, because it is still snowing a bit and the Yosemite in the snow is absolutely beautiful. The weather in Yosemite National Park is still a bit chilly, but it is not too cold and also there is not too much snow any more.  Roots of the Sequioas at the Yosemite National Park California

The Yosemite was really spectacular. I had never seen such a huge trees. They were as high as a building. They were incredibly colourful. We saw a very old tree with a giant root fallen on the ground. The circumference of the tree was larger than I was. We saw another tree split in the middle. I was so minuscule around these giant ancient sequoias. The park was so beautiful. There are many things to do in Sequoia National Park as it is so huge! You can wonder around these giant trees and admire the views for ages. It is so beautiful. By the end of the day it started snowing heavily. The scenery looked so perfect in the snow. It was a real winter wonderland.

If you are wondering, where to stay in Yosemite, stay at the Tenaya Lodge nearby. It is one of the most upscale hotels near Yosemite National Park. The hotel is near the south entrance of the Yosemite. We had a very special experience in this beautiful, cozy hotel. It is a truly wonderful place to stay, during your visit to the national park. If you are adventurous enough, you can reserve cabins for rent in Yosemite.

The next morning we drove to the Yosemite Valley and hiked to the Half Dome. It was a large mountain that you could see from any point in the park. It was massive and beautiful. If you are wondering what to do in Yosemite, you can go for hikes, you can visit the beautiful waterfalls or just chill in the lodge.

From there, we continued to the Mirror Lake. The lake’s crystal clear water reflected the surrounding mountains. It was spectacular. Visiting the Mirror Lake is one of the best things to do in Yosemite National Park. After a quick lunch at the Yosemite Valley Lodge, we continued our day to the Yosemite Falls.

The waterfalls were really incredible. They were massive. They were the most incredible waterfalls I have ever seen. From there, we continued our journey to the Vernall Falls. It was slightly smaller than the Yosemite Falls we first saw, but it was also very beautiful. It is one of the coolest things to do at Yosemite.

If you are wondering what to see in Yosemite, head out to see the beautiful wild life of the park. Along the way, we saw beautiful deers along the road. They were not intimidated by us at all.

As we were driving out of the park, we witnessed one of the most beautiful sunsets I had ever seen in my life. The colors were unreal. The scenery and the sunset made me feel like I was part of the TV show Twin Peaks. The sunset was one of the most beautiful things to see in Yosemite. We spent the evening chilling by the fireplace of our hotel. It was very beautiful.

When we woke up the next morning, everything was covered with snow. It was wonderful. We realized that the weather was not suitable for hiking, as we did not have proper shoes for the snow, so we decided to leave the park a bit earlier to escape from the snow and get back to the sunny part of California. If you are wondering what to do at Yosemite in the snow, head out and observe the beautiful park in the snowy wonderland. It is a really beautiful experience.

From Yosemite, I got a ride to Merced, where I hopped on the Amtrak train to continue my journey to San Francisco. The Amtrak ride was not the best experience, but it is OK to try it once in a lifetime. The Yosemite was a truly amazing experience. I highly recommend a visit to anyone, who wants to recharge in nature for a couple of days.

This is so wonderful, it’s funny, I’ve only ever seen photos and heard tips from people who have visited Yosemite in the summer – it seems to be totally under appreciated and underrated in the winter time. It looks stunning! Especially the Sequioas rising up from a blanket of snow! Would love to go 🙂

Yes, I thought it was pretty special to be there in the snow, but the conditions for hiking are not so good, so many people prefer to visit the park during the Summer. Either way it is always a beautiful experience.

I’ve been seeing winter photos of Yosemite and I’ve been obsessing over it since! The waterfall sounds majestic and I can only imagine what it’d be like to see it up close.

Yosemite National park is on our list too when we visit the US. I have so mant friends who have been to the national park and keep raving about how stunning it is. The lodge looks pretty cosy and inviting. I don’t watch Twin Peak but I will try checking on Netflix to know the story 🙂

This post brings back such wonderful memories for me. I went to the Yosemite 10 years ago, it was only my second time in the states and I couldn’t believe how beautiful the trees and waterfalls were! It looks like it’s even more wonderful in the snow doesn’t it? 🙂

Thank you! Two days should be enough to quickly explore the place, but you can always stay longer to see more.

That is so awesome that you visited in the winter! We are talking about going but are looking to go in Spring. After seeing your pictures maybe we will go sooner!

Maybe, you should go in MArch. I went in March and it was snowing. Maybe there will be snow. However, it is more difficult to drive around when it is snowing. So there are pros and cons for going later.
