Davos in a tiny village in the Swiss Alps 2-hour drive away from Zurich. The village offers many attractions to tourists as well as to business leaders. Here are three exciting things to do in Davos:
- Extreme Sports: Skiing and Snowboarding
Do you like the variety of ski slopes and are you a peak performer when it comes to Winter sports? Then the magical mountains of Davos Klosters will be a great fit for you. Skiing in Swiss Alps is one of the best things to do in Davos.
You can choose between 5 resorts here: Jakobshorn, the Parsenn/Gotschna Resort and the two family-friendly mountains Madrisa and Klosters. Here, you are simply spoilt with choices. Snow is guaranteed starting from around 300m.
Facts & Infos on ski-lifts:
Transport installations & pistes
Installations: 57 ski lifts are available (incl. valley lifts)
Transport capacity: 64’421 Persons per hour
Number of pistes: 110
Total km/miles of pistes: around 300 km / 186 miles

Jakobshorn and Parsenn are the largest and most popular areas with connecting lifts on either side of Davos. Jakobshorn is home of 2 halfpipes and a main terrain park, all of which is kept in top shape.
Parsenn is the backbone of Davos, linking Davos village to Klosters and has plenty of good long pistes and freeride options.
From Klosters you can access the Madrisa area, which is a little quieter and offers some decent freeriding.
Pischa is also an unspoilt alternative for anyone wishing to enjoy the mountains away from all the hustle and bustle.
The focus is on alternative sports in the Flüela Valley winter sports area. The region offers perfectly groomed winter hiking routes, designated snow shoe trails, high-altitude cross-country ski tracks and 4 fatbike tracks. This area definitely boasts an excellent starting point for ski tours in the open terrain.
The ski resort of Davos is one of the first ones to open in Switzerland at the end of November, and it is covered in snow until the closing date in mid-April.
Davos has a population of 10,000 and offers all the Swiss quality services you will need. Getting to and around Davos couldn’t be easier. There are train services directly to Davos village, Platz and Klosters and a train from Zurich airport will take around 2 ½ hours. There is also a regular free ski-bus that links all the mountain areas.

3. Networking: World Economic Forum in Davos
The most exciting and memorable things to do in Davos is attending the World Economic Forum which takes place every January since 1971.
WEF is a four-day conference at the Swiss ski resort. But it has become a festival of networking. Getting an invitation is a sign you have made it in the business World. The color of the participant’s badge reveals his/her place in the Davos hierarchy.
This year more than 2,500 participants from about 100 countries gathered in Davos to meet, greet and discuss global issues. To name a few: Xi Jinping, Donald Trump, Emmanuel Macron, Justin Trudeau, Jack Ma and other members of the business elite.
If you want to attend WEF in Davos, you need to be invited by the WEF. An annual membership costs $52,000 for an individual member and $628,000 for a “Strategic Partner”.
Do not be shocked by the price to attend a 4 days conference. When it comes to housing, the hotel prices rise up to $60,000 for a room in a 4-5 star hotel for the week of the WEF. The Rixos luxury hotels group makes 85% of its annual profit during the week of WEF.
In 2016, I came to the WEF as an official interpreter of the Prime Minister of Kazakhstan, Mr. Sagintaev. I spent 4 days following the Kazakh delegation and Prime Minister to numerous breakfasts, panel discussions, receptions, bilateral meetings. It was an exciting experience to see the daily WEF routine of an important public figure and to greet the masters of this world.
Those events such as discussion panels, cocktails, talks, gala dinners hosted by governments and corporations include top executives, founders, and people you can learn from, get inspiration from and potentially do business with.
Last 2 years events that I attended were particularly focused on crypto and blockchain technologies, digitalization, future of AI, social entrepreneurship, women empowerment. Events are hosted by various partners and sponsors such as CNBC, Forbes, FTI, Fortune, Zeit, KPMG, PwC, Deloitte, McKinsey, Bain, BCG, Wisekey, Accenture, Salesforce, Facebook, Microsoft, HSBC, UBS, Sberbank, and many others.
There are too many events running at the same time in Davos during WEF. Therefore, you need to make right choices and decide which events you want to attend, depending on your personal or business goals.
For quality networking, I personally recommend Tech Tuesday and Arabian Nights in Davos. These events are by invitation only.
Two of the most exciting events are the Salesforce Party and Deripaska Party at Seehoff Chalet.
Marc Benioff known to be one of the forum’s most respected members throws an incredible nightcap on Thursday with a very tight guest list.
In 2018, Russian billionaire Oleg Deripaska and Nath Rothschild brought in Enrique Iglesias to their exclusive cocktail and dance Russian party at Seehof Chalet. Caviar and vodka were flowing and Enrique was inviting everyone to join him on the stage to take selfies.
I have been around the World, but I have not come across an event which is more joyful, useful and exciting than the WEF. This event is by far the best I can recommend to anyone who loves new experiences and wants to network with interesting people! Don’t hesitate to get in touch if you would like to get your ticket to the next WEF.
