Best Things To Do In Florianopolis: Dancing Forro on the Beach, Sleeping on Sand Dunes

May 31, 2017

We moved into a beautiful hotel near Praia Mole and spent our days on this beautiful beach. These beaches were some of the most stunning places to visit in Brazil. We had fun in Florianopolis during the night and day. One of the best things to do in Florianopolis is hanging on the beach an surfing. Islands, were the best places to go in Brazil. They were mostly more beautiful and safer than the big cities.

Fun Things to Do in Florianopolis

We made some new friends with other travellers, mainly tourists who moved to Brazil for the whole Winter. There were lots of Aussies, Italians, English guys. These guys were surfing all day and partying at night. Apparently, these were the most fun things to do in Brazil.

Nightlife of Florianopolis

The beaches were very beautiful and the nightlife was fantastic. Florianopolis was certainly one of the best places to live in Brazil. It was fairly safe and vibrant. If you want to see one of the most beautiful places in Brazil. Head straight down to this place. One night, we decided to go out to a local club because they had a Forro night and we wanted to learn this exotic Brazilian dance. As the three of us were walking to the club, a car drove by with a few Brazilian guys and offered us a ride to the club. We all squeezed into the backseat. When we got to the club, our English friend went to the toilet and saw our new Brazilian friends who gave us a ride distributing the drugs in the bathroom. We couldn’t believe we just got a ride from the local drug dealers. We spent the rest of the night drinking cachacas and dancing. One of the most fun things to do in Brazil, is dancing samba. It s in the blood of every Brazilian. We came out of the club late in the night and the four of us went up to the top of the sand dunes in front of the club to stare at the stars in the sky. We lay there chatting and staring at the sky until we fell asleep. I woke up around 7am because I was cold, so I woke up the rest of the guys and we went home. It was an incredible experience spending a night under the stars on the sand dunes. Next day we drove with our English friend to the southernmost part of the island called  to visit a very famous fish restaurant called Bar do Arante.

The place was right on the beach and the seafood was fresh and delicious. The place is very special , because every visitor leaves a note on the walls on a sheet of paper, a napkin or a piece of toilet paper. So the place is full of thousands of notes. All the walls are covered with notes. It looks really cool. We spent a fun week in Floripa. It was a real paradise and we were very sad to leave this beautiful place. We had to see, as there were more things to see in Brazil. We were excited to go to Rio de Janeiro.

Sleeping under the stars sounds like a dream! I spent a few months on an island in the Caribbean, and one of my favorite things to do there was to turn all the lights off, climb on the roof, and look at the stars. The sky is really amazing when there is less light pollution. Sounds like you had a great time!

    • Barb

Yes, it is certainly funto reconnect with nature. We only rarely do this, when we are in the big city.

I hadn’t heard of Florianopolis before, though good to know that it’s one of the best places to live – will definitely include it on our itinerary in the future, especially to experience the beaches and the nightlife 🙂

    • Barb

It s more of a vacation destination than a place to live. It is definitely worth a visit, if you like beautiful beaches.

  • Rahul Khurana

I have heard a lot about brazilian beaches and this one sounds really cool. Liked the cafe with notes all over the walls and ceiling. Nice concept. Also, it must have been a freaky moment when you came to know about those drug dealers. You should never take a ride with strangers.

    • Barb

Yes, now I know. It was a lesson to learn….

So, what exactly is there to do in Florianopolis besides the nightlife? You briefly mentioned surfing – are there surf schools? How about diving or snorkeling?

    • Barb

People dont go there for diving. There are better places for that in Brazil.

  • I’ve heard about Bar do Arante before, and it sounds amazing! Would love to have dinner there too! 🙂 Thanks for sharing your tips about Florianopolis.

Sounds relaxing, I know a few local surfers who who spend the winter in Brazil, not a bad way to avoid the grey UK winter.

    • Barb

Those guys are lucky! This place is paradise.

  • Kavita

Sounds like a more chilled place to have a bit of fun, both at the club and on the beach. Cool to spend a night on the beach too!
