The Best Things To Do in Luang Prabang Laos
As soon as I got out of the airplane I could smell the really clean and fresh mountain air and scenery of all the beautiful mountains was incredible. Luang Prabang had accommodation options everywhere around the city. After arriving to the hotel, I went to eat and I met a Brazilian war journalist in the restaurant. He told me all about what to do in Luang Prabang. I spent the next three days hanging out with him. He previously went to Iraq, Rwanda and Bosnia and pretty much all the wars in the past 20 years and he told me many interesting and sad stories about these wars. I really enjoyed hearing his stories. On the first day we went to visit the Buddhist temples and made friends with the monks there. This city is the city of monks. They were everywhere. The monks were very friendly. Most of them were around the age of 15. They were very much interested in my World and one of them even wanted to see all the pictures on my camera. I visited temples after temples in Luang Prabang. Luang Prabang attractions were endless.

The city was very slow-paced and relaxing. It was like a therapy to be there for a couple of days. There were many things to do in Luang Prabang. There was an amazing night market in the city center, where the locals were selling all sorts of artisanal goods. I shopped for some really nice souvenirs at very reasonable prices. Luang Prabang offered tours to visit the nearby waterfalls and caves. The next morning, I took a boat ride on the Mekong River for a couple of hours and I visited two very beautiful caves. After lunch, we went to see the Kuang Si Waterfalls. The Luang Prabang waterfall was really spectacular. The color of the water was amazingly blue. This was one of the best day trips from Luang Prabang.
At night I went to check out the most expensive restaurant in Luang Prabang. It was still cheap in comparison to NYC restaurants. The food was decent. I spent the next day hanging out with my Brazilian journalist friend. We were chilling out. At night we discovered gay Luang Prabang. We found the only gay bar and gay restaurant in the city. It was great fun, although there was a curfew at 11:30 so we went home early. The next morning my Brazilian friend and I woke up at 5:30am to see the monks lining up for food on the main street after sunrise. At least a hundred or more monks showed up around 6am and the locals were giving them food. Their orange robes made the whole street beautifully colourful. This was definitely one of the top things to do in Luang Prabang during my stay.

After that I went back to the hotel, packed and left for the airport. I got on a very small plane to fly to Cambodia. It was a flight by the Lao Airlines. The Lonely Planet guide book warns you not to fly with this airline, but I thought it would be a real adventure to try it. It was really noisy, but it was a fun experience.
